Does 852 Hz actually work? No study has tested 852 Hz on its own, so nobody can say it does anything special.
852 Hz is a tone on the modern Solfeggio chart, linked with intuition and the third eye chakra. People who use it often report 852 Hz benefits like feeling calmer or more focused. That can come from quiet time, attention and music in general, and none of it needs 852 Hz.
Below: what 852 Hz means, a claim-by-claim check of the 852 Hz frequency benefits (pineal gland, brain, “truth filter”), what research exists on sound and the brain, how 852 Hz compares with 963 Hz, and how to listen safely.
What is 852 Hz?
852 Hz (852 hertz) means 852 cycles per second. It’s one of 9 tones on the modern Solfeggio chart, where the 852 Hz meaning is intuition, inner vision and “returning to spiritual order”. As a note it sits 44 cents sharp of G#5 (830.6 Hz), so it falls between notes.
The chart with exact Hz values traces to Joseph Puleo’s claim, around 1974, that he found six hidden frequencies in the Book of Numbers, and to the 1999 book Healing Codes for the Biological Apocalypse by Puleo and Leonard Horowitz, which added three more. Musicologists see no historical support for it. The syllables ut, re, mi, fa, sol and la are real and medieval, but they name notes and don’t carry Hz values. For the full chart, see the healing frequencies list.
852 Hz frequency benefits: claims vs evidence
| Claim | What the evidence shows | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Awakens intuition and the third eye | Spiritual belief with no way to test it | Belief |
| Clears overthinking and mental fog, improves focus | No study of 852 Hz found. Binaural beat studies use beats, not a plain 852 Hz tone | Not tested |
| Activates the pineal gland | No evidence that an audible tone does this | Not supported |
| Boosts melatonin or DMT | The pineal gland makes melatonin. Evidence for pineal DMT in humans is lacking | Not supported |
| Helps you see through lies | No mechanism and no evidence | Not supported |
| Brings lucid dreams, auras or visions | No study of 852 Hz found | Not supported |
| Relaxation | Music in general can lower anxiety for some people. Not tested for 852 Hz | Early research, for music |
What does 852 Hz do to the brain? Does it actually work?
How does 852 Hz affect the brain? Brain rhythms run at roughly 0.5 to 80 Hz, so a plain 852 Hz tone isn’t at the speed of any brainwave, and nothing shows it entrains one.
What has been studied is music and binaural beats in general. The NIH’s NCCIH summary finds music can lower anxiety and pain in some settings. A 2019 meta-analysis of binaural beats found a medium effect (g of about 0.45) across cognition, anxiety and pain, with different outcomes and protocols pooled together. Neither tests 852 Hz.
So why do people feel something? Quiet time, slow breathing, a focus point and the expectation of calm all help, and any calm track can bring them. That’s why it can feel like it works. It doesn’t show that the 852 part matters. A fair test would play the same track at 852 Hz and at a nearby pitch, tell nobody which is which, and compare the results. Nobody has published that.
The pineal gland claim is the one to skip. The adult pineal gland weighs under 0.2 g and its main job is making about 30 micrograms of melatonin a day. A 2018 review in the Journal of Psychopharmacology found the evidence isn’t consistent with the idea that it releases DMT at night or near death. In a 2019 rat study, DMT showed up in the visual cortex whether or not the pineal gland was there.
852 Hz frequency chakra: the third eye link
The third eye (Ajna) chakra sits between the eyebrows and is linked with intuition and insight. The Solfeggio chart pairs it with 852 Hz. Tuning fork charts use 221.23 Hz instead, the Venus tone, and other charts use other numbers, so the pairing is a convention. The chakra frequency chart compares all 7 chakras and their Hz across four systems.
852 Hz vs 963 Hz
| Tone | Chart theme | Chakra | Nearest note | Research |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 852 Hz | Intuition, inner vision | Third eye | G#5, 44 cents sharp | None found |
| 963 Hz | Oneness, spiritual connection | Crown | B5, 44 cents flat | None found |
They’re two pitches with different chart meanings, and nobody has compared them head to head. The Solfeggio tone with the most research is 528 Hz, and even that is small and early. See the 528 Hz frequency benefits.
How to listen to 852 Hz safely
Treat 852 Hz as a meditation or relaxation track. Nobody has tested a dose, so there’s no maximum time, no proven schedule and no proof that daily listening does anything. What matters is volume. WHO says you can safely listen at 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week, and at 90 dB the safe time drops to 4 hours a week. It also advises keeping your device at no more than 60% of maximum volume.
A simple way to use it: sit quietly, rest your attention on the space between your eyebrows and breathe slowly. You don’t need headphones for a plain tone, but a track sold with binaural beats does. Skip anything that strains your eyes. If a track leaves you dizzy, foggy or anxious, or gives you a headache or ringing, stop. If it lasts, see a clinician. 852 Hz can sit alongside care. It doesn’t replace it.
852 Hz FAQ
Does 852 Hz actually work?
No study has tested 852 Hz alone, so there’s no evidence it does anything specific. Music and binaural beats in general can help some people relax, and 852 Hz tracks may do the same for that reason.
What does 852 Hz do to the brain?
Nothing specific has been shown. Brain rhythms run at about 0.5 to 80 Hz, so a plain 852 Hz tone isn’t at the speed of any of them.
Why does 852 Hz work for some people?
Quiet time, slow breathing, focus and the expectation of calm help many people relax. Any calm track can bring those, so they don’t show that the 852 Hz pitch matters.
What does 852 Hz mean spiritually?
On the modern Solfeggio chart it stands for intuition, inner vision and returning to spiritual order, and it’s paired with the third eye chakra. It’s a modern chart and not an ancient teaching.
What chakra is 852 Hz?
The third eye chakra on the Solfeggio chart. Tuning fork charts use 221.23 Hz for it instead.
Does 852 Hz help with overthinking or focus?
It hasn’t been tested for either. A calm track and slow breathing may help you settle, but there’s no evidence for the 852 Hz pitch itself.
How long can I listen to 852 Hz?
Nobody has tested a time limit. Volume is the risk. WHO says 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week and no more than 60% device volume.
Is 852 Hz Christian?
No church teaching assigns Hz values to the Solfeggio syllables. The syllables come from a medieval Latin hymn, but the 852 Hz chart is modern and has no historical support.
What note is 852 Hz?
About G#5, 44 cents sharp. G#5 is 830.6 Hz in A = 440 tuning.

Every study and safety figure on this page traces to one of these. The note offsets (cents) are standard equal-temperament arithmetic. I searched PubMed for “852 Hz” on 2 October 2026 and found no results.
