963 Hz Pineal Gland Activation: Claims, Benefits and What the Research Shows

Does 963 Hz activate the pineal gland? No study shows that it does. PubMed has no human trial that tests a 963 Hz tone for pineal function, brain waves, sleep or any other health effect.

963 Hz is the highest tone on the modern Solfeggio chart. Online, it’s linked with the pineal gland, the third eye and the crown chakra. Some people use it to meditate, and that’s a fair use. But claims that it “activates” or “decalcifies” a gland inside your skull go far past the research.

This guide covers what 963 Hz is, what the pineal gland does, which claims have evidence and how to listen without hurting your ears.

What is 963 Hz?

963 Hz means 963 vibrations per second. It sits between A#5 and B5, closer to B5 (about 44 cents flat of it, where 100 cents is one semitone). It’s a high, thin tone.

The name Solfeggio comes from medieval note names such as ut and re. Those syllables named notes and had no fixed frequencies. The chart that gives each one a number, including 963 Hz, is modern.

On that chart it’s usually paired with the crown chakra. Videos and websites often call it the “frequency of the gods,” but that’s a modern nickname.

Brain waves run from under 1 Hz to about 100 Hz, so 963 Hz is far above them. Binaural beats work differently. A binaural beat is the slow pulse you perceive when each ear hears a slightly different tone.

What does the pineal gland do?

The pineal gland is a small gland deep in the brain. An adult one weighs under 0.2 g. Its main job is making melatonin, about 30 micrograms a day, which helps set your sleep-wake rhythm.

Light is its main cue. A 2015 sleep-lab paper found that tablets, e-readers and phones all gave off blue-rich light, and the authors note that this is the kind that suppresses melatonin most effectively.

So the gland isn’t switched off, waiting for a sound. It’s already active.

Does 963 Hz activate the pineal gland?

No study shows it. “Activation” isn’t a medical term, so there’s nothing to measure. Researchers can measure melatonin, and PubMed shows no study that did so after a 963 Hz tone.

Does 963 Hz decalcify the pineal gland?

Pineal calcification is common. A 2023 meta-analysis put it at about 62% of people, and it rises with age. The deposits are calcium phosphate, a mineral much like bone.

A small study of 11 aged cadavers found fluoride in the pineal gland at far higher levels than in muscle, and it tracked with calcium. That’s why fluoride gets blamed online, but the study didn’t test whether fluoride causes calcification or whether removing it helps. CT studies have also linked calcification with conditions such as stroke, but they show an association and not a cause.

That’s where the evidence stops. PubMed shows no human trial where a sound, supplement, diet change or water filter reduced pineal calcification. The idea that a tone can “shake loose” deposits has no study behind it.

Skip any plan that tells you to change medicines or dental care to “decalcify” your pineal gland. If you’re worried about your health, talk to a clinician.

Does 963 Hz release DMT or trigger mystical states?

Some sites say the pineal gland makes DMT and that a tone releases it. A 2017 review in the Journal of Psychopharmacology went through the evidence. DMT has been detected in the brain, but only in tiny amounts, far too low to cause psychoactive effects. The authors also explain altered states during stress and near-death without DMT.

Does 963 Hz create gamma waves? What about the MIT studies?

Nothing in the research shows that a 963 Hz tone creates gamma waves.

The 40 Hz research is real, but it’s a different thing. Labs use flickering light and pulsing sound at 40 times a second. That’s very different from a steady 963 Hz tone. Most early work was in mice. Human studies are small and mostly in Alzheimer’s disease. One 2021 feasibility trial had 10 people. Another 2021 trial had 22 people and a sham group, and it measured sleep and daily activities. A two-year open-label follow-up from MIT and Mass General had 5. They tested safety and early signals. They didn’t test 963 Hz or meditation.

Binaural beats are a separate idea. A 2018 meta-analysis of 22 studies found a medium average effect on memory, attention, anxiety and pain, and the effect depended on the frequency and exposure time. A 2024 review of 16 pain trials found most had a high risk of bias and were too different to pool. So binaural beats look promising but unsettled. Neither review was about the pineal gland.

What people report

Some listeners say 963 Hz brings calm, pressure between the eyebrows, tingling or vivid dreams. Others say it deepens their meditation.

Those are personal experiences, and they matter to the people who have them. But they don’t show that a gland changed. Quiet, attention and expectation all shape what you feel.

Ringing in your ears, steady pressure in your head or new headaches aren’t proof of an “awakening.” If they last or keep coming back, see a clinician.

How to listen to 963 Hz

Nobody has tested a method or a dose, so treat this as a meditation practice.

  1. Find a quiet spot and sit or lie down.
  2. Use headphones or speakers at a low, comfortable volume. A 963 Hz tone is high and thin, and it can sound sharp.
  3. Start with 10 minutes. There’s no tested length.
  4. Rest your attention on your breath, the sound or the space between your eyebrows, whichever feels natural.
  5. When it ends, sit quietly for a minute or two.

Try one simple check. Rate how calm you feel from 0 to 10 before and after each session for a week. That helps you tell the tone’s effect apart from ten quiet minutes.

You can try it below. The video is our 963 Hz track, and the audio clip is a recorded singing bowl.

Binaural beats need stereo headphones, because each ear gets a different tone. Our best headphones for binaural beats guide covers options. That guide has affiliate links, so we may earn a commission if you buy through it. This article has none.

Is 963 Hz safe? Dangers, risks and side effects

At a moderate volume, a 963 Hz tone is low risk for most people. The risks are mostly practical.

Loud sound through headphones can damage hearing. Keep the volume low, and stop if you feel ear discomfort or ringing.

If you have tinnitus, hearing loss or sound sensitivity, ask an audiologist or doctor first. Don’t listen while driving or doing anything that needs your full attention.

No study of 963 Hz has looked for side effects, so there’s no data either way.

The bigger risk is delay. A tone can’t replace care for sleep problems, ringing that won’t go away, headaches or low mood.

963 Hz, the third eye, the crown chakra and kundalini

In modern chakra teaching, 963 Hz is paired with the crown chakra, and 852 Hz with the third eye. Some teachers also link the crown with kundalini. These are spiritual frameworks. They give you a way to describe a practice, but there’s nothing to measure, so no study can confirm or rule them out. Charts also differ on the numbers.

963 Hz FAQ

What frequency activates the pineal gland?

None has been shown to. The pineal gland already makes melatonin, and light is the signal best shown to influence it.

What does 963 Hz do to the brain?

No study measures it. The 40 Hz studies use pulsing light and sound, and they’re mostly in Alzheimer’s disease.

Can 963 Hz decalcify the pineal gland?

PubMed shows no trial where a sound reduced pineal calcification.

What are the signs of pineal gland activation?

There are no validated signs. Tingling or pressure between the eyebrows is a personal experience. See a clinician if you have ringing, head pressure or headaches that last.

Does 963 Hz open the third eye?

That’s a spiritual belief. You can describe what you feel, but there’s nothing to measure.

How long should you listen to 963 Hz?

There’s no tested length. Ten minutes is a reasonable start.

Is 963 Hz good for sleep?

No trial tests it. If you try it, keep the volume low and see a clinician if sleep problems continue.

Is 963 Hz safe?

At a low volume, yes for most people. Loud headphones are the main risk, so see the safety section above.

What are the benefits of 963 Hz music?

People report calm, focus and a deeper meditation. No study has measured benefits for a 963 Hz tone, so treat those reports as experience and not as evidence.

Can you listen to 963 Hz for 3 hours?

Nobody has tested long sessions. Hearing risk depends on volume and time, so keep the volume low and take breaks.

Is 432 Hz or 963 Hz better for the pineal gland?

Neither has been shown to affect it. For 432 Hz, see our 432 Hz frequency benefits.

What is the 963 Hz frequency meaning?

On the modern Solfeggio chart, it’s the top tone, linked with the crown chakra and a sense of unity.

What note is 963 Hz?

It’s between A#5 and B5, about 44 cents flat of B5.
