The 432 Hz frequency benefits with any support are small and short-term. Small studies say music tuned to 432 Hz may help you relax for a short while. None shows it heals the body.
432 Hz (also written 432hz or 432 hertz) is a pitch of 432 cycles per second. Most of the time it means music tuned so the note A equals 432 Hz instead of the standard 440 Hz. It gets sold as the “healing frequency” and the “natural frequency of the universe”.
I found 16 human studies. They’re small, and only 1 had more than 100 people. Nearly all of them played retuned music. They point to short-term relaxation, mostly in dental and clinic settings. And when a study compared 432 with 440 Hz, the results split. 432 led on some heart rate, cortisol and sleep-score measures, while 440 led in sport and in one mood study.
None shows that 432 Hz repairs DNA, treats a disease or works better than other relaxing music. I last checked PubMed on 3 October 2026.

What is 432 Hz?
Tuning music to 432 Hz means setting the reference note A4 to 432 cycles per second. Modern concert pitch sets it at 440. That lowers every note by about 1.82%, or 31.8 cents. A cent is 1/100 of a semitone, so the shift is a bit under a third of a semitone. NIST lists A440 as the internationally recognized standard.
So 432 Hz music is normal music with the same notes, a little lower. It isn’t a track that plays one 432 Hz tone. A pure tone is a different sound. So are binaural beats, which need headphones suited for binaural beats because each ear hears a slightly different pitch. Results from one don’t carry over to the others.
What is 432 Hz good for? Listening, mostly. The research links it to short-term relaxation, and the rest of this page shows how far that goes.
432 Hz also isn’t one of the Solfeggio tones. Tracks often layer them anyway. For the full chart, see the healing frequencies list.
432 Hz frequency benefits: 15 claims vs evidence
These are the benefits of 432 Hz that people claim most, each graded against the studies below. The 432 Hz benefits with any support are short-term and small.
| Claim | What the evidence shows | Verdict |
|---|---|---|
| Reduces situational anxiety | 3 dental trials of 42 to 99 people saw anxiety fall after 432 music, but about as much after 440 music or binaural beats | Early research |
| Lowers cortisol | One trial, with 15 people in the 432 group, measured it in saliva after a tooth extraction | Early research |
| Lowers heart rate | Two small crossover studies show a bigger drop at 432. A 72-person trial found no difference from control | Mixed |
| Raises heart rate variability | One 43-person study saw a rise after 432, but the gap from 443 Hz wasn’t significant | Early research |
| Lowers blood pressure | Some drops inside groups, with no clear difference between groups in a 2025 trial | Mixed |
| Improves sleep | A 12-person pilot saw better sleep scores. A 15-person nap study saw more alpha waves but no faster sleep onset | Early research |
| Changes brainwaves | Tiny EEG studies, with results that differ by brain region and direction | Mixed |
| Improves focus or thinking | A 162-student trial found no difference on the Stroop test | Not supported |
| Raises BDNF or builds neuroplasticity | In the same 162-student trial, 528 Hz music raised BDNF and 432 Hz didn’t | Not supported |
| Improves sports performance | In 2 crossover studies, music helped but 440 Hz did as well or better | Not supported |
| Repairs DNA or cells | No human study found | Not supported |
| Treats cancer, tinnitus or pain, or boosts immunity | No trial found. The 2025 cancer study measured relaxation markers, not tumors | Not supported |
| Activates the pineal gland or restructures body water | No study of either | Not supported |
| Is the natural, golden ratio or Earth frequency | Traced to tuning history and numerology, not to measurement | Belief |
| Opens the chakras, removes fear or raises your vibration | Chakra charts disagree and no study measures any of these | Belief |
Read the verdicts narrowly. “Early research” means one or a few small studies and no proven effect yet. NIH’s NCCIH reviews music in general and finds some evidence for anxiety, stress, some pain and subjective sleep quality, with many findings still preliminary. So a good result may come from the music, the rest, the attention or the expectation, and not from the number 432.
432 Hz studies and research: what each one found
Here is every human study I found, grouped by what it measured.
Anxiety and dental procedures
2016, Di Nasso and colleagues (Journal of Endodontics). 100 patients had root canal treatment with 432 Hz music or no music. Blood pressure and heart rate dropped more with the music. There was no 440 Hz group, so the tuning can’t be credited. PubMed
2020, Aravena and colleagues (Journal of Applied Oral Science). 42 people had a tooth extracted with 432 Hz music (15), 440 Hz music (15) or no music (12). Anxiety scores were 8.7 at 432 and 8.4 at 440, against 17.2 with no music. So the music helped and the tuning didn’t matter. But salivary cortisol was 0.49 micrograms/dL at 432, against 1.35 at 440 and 1.59 with no music. That’s the best 432-specific signal I found, and it rests on 15 people. PubMed
2021, Menziletoglu and colleagues (Medicina Oral, Patologia Oral y Cirugia Bucal). 90 patients before a third molar extraction heard 432 Hz music, binaural beats or nothing. Anxiety fell in both audio groups. There was no 440 Hz music to compare. PubMed
2025, Zaki and colleagues (Journal of the Pakistan Medical Association). 99 root canal patients heard 432 Hz music, binaural beats or white noise. Both active options cut anxiety more than white noise, and they didn’t differ from each other. PubMed
Heart rate, blood pressure and stress
2019, Calamassi and Pomponi (Explore). 33 healthy volunteers heard the same movie soundtrack at 440 and 432 Hz on different days, blinded. Heart rate fell 4.79 bpm more at 432 (P=0.05) and blood pressure didn’t differ. Listeners reported more focus at 432. The journal printed a corrigendum in 2020. PubMed
2022, Calamassi and colleagues (Acta Biomedica). 54 healthcare providers got 440 Hz music, 432 Hz music or a routine break. Anxiety scores dropped in all three groups, the break included. In the 432 group, breathing slowed by about 2.7 breaths per minute and systolic pressure fell about 3.8 mmHg. PubMed
2025, Hohneck and colleagues (BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies). 43 people with cancer had 15 minutes of body monochord sound tuned to 432 and to 443 Hz, on separate days. Heart rate fell a median 3 bpm at 432 and 1 bpm at 443 (P=0.04). Heart rate variability rose 3 ms after 432, but the gap from 443 wasn’t significant. Most people started with anxiety and stress scores near zero. The study measured relaxation markers, not tumors. PubMed
2025, Mousavi and colleagues (Clinical and Experimental Dental Research). 72 endodontic patients got 432 Hz music, lavender aromatherapy, both or nothing. Blood pressure and heart rate fell a little in the treated groups, but not significantly more than in the control group. PubMed
Sleep
2019, Dubey and colleagues (Journal of Family Medicine and Primary Care). 15 healthy men with a history of slow sleep onset napped with and without 432 Hz music, a week apart. Alpha wave energy rose at sleep onset (P<0.01). Sleep onset didn’t get significantly faster. PubMed
2020, Calamassi and colleagues (Acta Biomedica). 12 people with spinal cord injuries heard preferred music tuned to 432 and to 440 Hz, blinded. Sleep scores rose 3.6 points after 432 (P=0.02) and didn’t rise after 440. Nobody had a documented insomnia diagnosis, and listening times varied. It’s a pilot. PubMed
Brain, EEG and thinking
2026, Bozok and colleagues (Brain and Behavior). 162 students under exam stress heard 20 minutes of 432 Hz music, 528 Hz music or nothing. Salivary BDNF and CREB were higher after 528 Hz than with nothing. A stress-related protein, GRP78, was higher in the 432 group, and Stroop scores didn’t differ. That doesn’t show harm from 432 Hz, and a saliva marker isn’t a health outcome. PubMed
2025, Djohan and colleagues (Resital). 10 music students heard the same piece at 432 and 528 Hz while a single-channel EEG headset recorded. Delta waves rose with both and didn’t differ between them (p=0.229). The authors say general music engagement drove the response more than the tuning.
2025, Dirik (RAST Musicology Journal). 11 non-musicians and 10 musicians heard music at 432 and 440 Hz with EEG. Some theta, alpha and beta readings were higher at 440, and connectivity between the front and back of the brain was higher at 432. The differences go both ways and none is a health outcome. Journal PDF
Sport and mood
2025, Jebabli and colleagues (Scientific Reports). 22 male athletes warmed up with preferred music at 440 Hz, at 432 Hz or with no music. Music beat no music, and 440 Hz beat 432 Hz on repeated sprint and jump tests. PubMed
2025, Jebabli and colleagues (PeerJ). 28 kickboxers did the same test. Warming up with 440 Hz music helped most and 432 Hz came second. Women reacted more to the pitch difference than men. PubMed
2026, Dela Cruz and colleagues (International Journal of Behavioral and Social Analytics). 16 students were split into 8 and 8, and both groups reported more emotional safety after listening. The 440 Hz group gained more, but the 432 group started higher, which makes the comparison shaky.
Animal and lab studies
Mouse, rat and horse studies exist. 432 Hz music during pregnancy changed reflex scores in mouse pups, and rat pups gained weight. A horse study used a mix of several frequencies. These are animal studies, so they can’t tell you what happens in a person.
A 2022 water study used near-infrared light to look at water exposed to sound. Both 432 and 440 Hz changed the water’s spectrum, and each did it differently. It says nothing about the water in your body.
Does 432 Hz work better than 440 Hz?
Only a matched comparison can separate the tuning from the music. So I put every 432 vs 440 (or 443) study I found in one table.
| Study | Compared | People | Result |
|---|---|---|---|
| Calamassi and Pomponi 2019 | 432 vs 440 | 33 | Heart rate fell 4.79 bpm more at 432 |
| Aravena 2020 | 432 vs 440 vs none | 42 | Same anxiety drop. Cortisol lower at 432 |
| Calamassi 2020 | 432 vs 440 | 12 | Sleep score rose at 432 only |
| Calamassi 2022 | 432 vs 440 vs break | 54 | Anxiety fell in all groups |
| Hohneck 2025 | 432 vs 443 | 43 | Heart rate fell 3 vs 1 bpm. Mood scores improved with both |
| Dirik 2025 | 432 vs 440 | 21 | EEG differences in both directions |
| Jebabli 2025 (Sci Rep) | 432 vs 440 vs none | 22 | 440 beat 432 on sprint and jump tests |
| Jebabli 2025 (PeerJ) | 432 vs 440 vs none | 28 | 440 best, 432 second |
| Dela Cruz 2026 | 432 vs 440 | 16 | 440 gained more, but baselines differed |
Counting by outcome, 432 led on at least one measure in 4 of the 9, 440 led in 3, and 2 showed no difference or went both ways. That isn’t a winner.
A fair test plays the same track at both tunings, at the same volume and length, and keeps listeners blind to which is which. A few studies did that and every one is small. So whether the pitch itself matters is still an open question.
Want to test it yourself? Do the same thing. Play one track at 432 and then at 440, same volume, and get a friend to pick the order without telling you.
Is 432 Hz a healing frequency? What the research says
No study shows that 432 Hz heals the body. The research supports short-term relaxation from 432 Hz music at most, and it can’t separate the tuning from the music. Here is how the bigger healing claims hold up.
DNA repair. No human study shows 432 Hz repairing DNA. The claim is borrowed from 528 Hz cell research that measured cell survival and never looked at DNA repair. I cover it in the 528 Hz article.
Cellular repair and inflammation. A 2026 Cureus review on brain injury and stroke says 432 and 528 Hz are “reported” to reduce inflammation and promote cellular repair. It also calls for more research because of method differences and a lack of large studies. A review isn’t a trial.
Water and pineal gland. I found no human study of 432 Hz on body water or the pineal gland. The pineal claim belongs to 963 Hz in wellness lore, and it has no test behind it either.
Tinnitus, Parkinson’s, arthritis, cancer and immunity. None of the 432 Hz studies I found tests these. The 2025 cancer study checked heart rate and relaxation in 43 patients. If you have one of these conditions, see a clinician. Volume matters more than pitch.
Which chakra is 432 Hz?
The chakras come from Indian yoga and tantra. The old texts describe them with lotus petals, colors and seed syllables. The hertz is named after the physicist Heinrich Hertz, so no traditional text could list a chakra by Hz.
Hertz values came with modern wellness charts, and the charts disagree. Track titles pair 432 Hz with the root, sacral or heart chakra, depending on who made the chart. The modern Solfeggio chart doesn’t list 432 Hz at all. For the pairings most charts use, see the chakra frequency chart.
In chakra teaching the root chakra stands for safety and grounding, the sacral chakra for emotion and creativity, and the heart chakra for love. So root chakra frequency benefits, like feeling grounded, are what practitioners describe. No study measures them.
No study I found tests 432 Hz on a chakra. A chakra isn’t something you can measure, so a trial has nothing to measure. What you can test is your own state, like calm, focus or sleepiness. Chakra meditation with 432 Hz music is a spiritual practice, and the relaxation research above is the part that has data.
Spiritual meaning of 432 Hz: fear, negativity and raising your vibration
In spiritual circles 432 Hz is called the natural tuning, or Verdi’s A. Practitioners link it to harmony with nature and describe 432 Hz music as warmer than 440 Hz. That’s a tradition and a listening experience. Plenty of people like it for exactly that reason.
Some tracks go further. They promise to remove fear, clear negativity, raise your vibration or attract abundance. No study measures any of those. The nearest data are the anxiety scores in the dental trials above, which fell with 432 Hz music and with 440 Hz music too.
Is 432 Hz the golden ratio or Earth’s natural frequency?
The 432 number has a real history. In 1884 Verdi asked the Italian government to fix pitch at 432 Hz, because concert pitch kept creeping up and he worried about his singers. In 1939 delegates in London agreed on A440, and ISO took it up in 1955 and formalized it as ISO 16 in 1975.
There’s also a maths reason people like it. If you tune the Pythagorean way with middle C at 256 Hz, A comes out at exactly 432 (256 x 27/16). With modern equal temperament and C at 256, A comes out at about 430.5. So 432 is one tuning system’s answer and not a law of nature.
I found no acoustics source that ties 432 Hz to the golden ratio. 432 is 2 to the 4th times 3 cubed, so it divides evenly by a lot of numbers, which is why numerologists like it. The Schumann resonance sits near 7.83 Hz and moves around, and 432 divided by 7.83 is about 55.2, which isn’t a whole number. None of this shows that your body responds to 432 Hz more than to 440 Hz.
Is 432 Hz safe? Side effects and how to listen
432 Hz music at a moderate volume is low risk for most people. The main safety issue is how loud it plays, whatever the tuning. The WHO says you can safely listen at 80 dB for up to 40 hours a week, and the safe time drops quickly at higher levels. Take listening breaks and keep your device volume down. WHO safe listening
None of the study abstracts I read reports side effects. The trials weren’t built to look for them, so that doesn’t prove there are none. Stop if you feel dizzy, get a headache or hear ringing.
Nobody has tested a dose. The two studies where I confirmed the session length used 15 and 20 minutes. Nobody has tested 432 Hz meditation as such either, so treat what you feel as your own experience. Pick a track you like and keep it quiet.
To retune a track yourself, shift its pitch down 31.8 cents. Some tools also change the speed and some don’t, and that’s one more way studies differ.
If anxiety, poor sleep, pain or hearing symptoms keep coming back, see a clinician. 432 Hz music can sit alongside care. It doesn’t replace it.
432 Hz FAQ
What is 432 Hz?
432 Hz, also written 432hz or 432 hertz, is a pitch of 432 cycles per second. In music it usually means tuning the note A to 432 Hz instead of 440 Hz, which lowers every note by about 31.8 cents.
What is 432 Hz good for?
Listening, mostly. Small studies link 432 Hz music to short-term relaxation and lower situational anxiety. It isn’t shown to treat any condition.
What are the 432 Hz frequency benefits?
Small studies of 432 Hz music report short-term drops in situational anxiety and, in some cases, heart rate and cortisol. They can’t separate the tuning from the music, and none shows a medical benefit.
Is 432 Hz a healing frequency?
No study shows that 432 Hz heals the body. Research points to short-term relaxation at most, and nothing shows it repairs DNA or treats a disease.
Is 432 Hz better than 440 Hz?
Not shown. Across 9 head-to-head studies, 432 led on some measures, 440 led on others, and 2 showed no difference or went both ways.
What chakra is 432 Hz?
It depends on the chart. Track titles pair it with the root, sacral or heart chakra. No traditional source assigns hertz values to chakras, and no study tests 432 Hz on one.
What is the spiritual meaning of 432 Hz?
In spiritual circles it’s called the natural tuning and linked to harmony with nature. That’s a tradition and a listening experience, not something studies measure.
Does 432 Hz remove fear or negativity?
No study measures that. Dental trials found anxiety fell with 432 Hz music, but also with 440 Hz music and binaural beats.
Is 432 Hz the golden ratio frequency?
I found no acoustics source that links 432 Hz to the golden ratio. Its history comes from tuning choices, like Verdi’s 1884 request, and from the maths of Pythagorean tuning.
Does 432 Hz help with sleep?
Very little evidence. A 12-person pilot saw better sleep scores, and a 15-person nap study saw more alpha waves but no faster sleep onset.
How long should I listen to 432 Hz?
Nobody has tested a dose. The studies where I confirmed the length used 15 and 20 minutes. Start short at a moderate volume.
Is 432 Hz safe? Does it have side effects?
The main risk is how loud it plays. None of the study abstracts I read reports side effects, but the trials weren’t built to look for them. See a clinician for ongoing symptoms.
Does 432 Hz help with tinnitus or pain?
No trial I found tests it. Volume matters more than pitch, and ongoing ringing or pain needs a clinician.
What is the difference between 432 Hz and 528 Hz?
They’re different pitches with different claims. In a 162-student trial, 528 Hz music raised salivary BDNF and 432 Hz music didn’t. Neither shows a health benefit.
